A Traditional Yet Welcoming Training Environment

Classes are held inside Titanium Fitness in a wide open training space equipped with mats and heavy bags for drills and partner work.

Training is disciplined and traditional while still maintaining a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where adults can comfortably learn and improve together.

Our goal is to preserve the traditions and structure of karate while making training accessible and enjoyable for modern adult students.

What Training Includes

Classes rotate between kata, sparring, and self-defense training based on stripe requirements, student progression, and skill development.Classes rotate between kata, sparring, and self-defense training based on stripe requirements, student progression, and skill development.

Kata are prearranged forms passed down through generations of Okinawan karate history during a time when weapons were banned.

Students practice kata in its traditional form while also learning bunkai, the interpretation and application of movements within the form.

Kata training encourages patience, focus, and attention to detail while helping students better understand the purpose behind traditional karate movement and technique.

Sparring is approached with safety first using full protective equipment and controlled light-contact training.

This is not boxing or fight club training. Sparring is designed to help students safely apply what they are learning, improve timing and distance management, and experiment with techniques in a respectful and structured environment.

Competition opportunities are available but always optional.

Self-defense training includes partner drills, awareness training, controlled applications, escapes, and scenario-based practice.

Students learn practical defensive movement while building confidence, awareness, and control in a supportive learning environment.

Students also learn practical ground-defense concepts and escape techniques designed to help build confidence and improve reactions in vulnerable situations.

Structured Belt Progression

Students progress through a structured stripe and belt system designed to encourage steady development and long-term growth.

Stripes are earned after students demonstrate understanding of specific material categories:

  • Red Stripe — Self-Defense
  • Blue Stripe — Sparring
  • White Stripe — Kata
Belts with stripes

Once all required stripes are earned and students can demonstrate their material on verbal command, they become eligible for advancement to the next belt rank.

Advancement is based on consistency, attendance, discipline, technical understanding, and dedication to learning rather than fixed timelines.

As students advance, the material becomes progressively more challenging and detailed.

Starting Is Easier Than You Think

Many adults hesitate to begin martial arts because they worry they are too old, out of shape, inexperienced, or unfamiliar with the traditions of karate.

At TrueForm MA, beginners are welcomed into a supportive environment where students are encouraged to learn at their own pace without feeling intimidated or out of place.

Your first class is simply an opportunity to experience training, meet the group, and see if the program feels right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any prior martial arts experience?

No. Our program is designed to welcome beginners, and many of our students start with no previous martial arts experience.

Do students train barefoot?

Yes.

Do I need a uniform immediately?

No. Students trying the program do not need a gi right away. Comfortable workout clothing is perfect for your first class. If you decide to continue training, you will eventually need a standard black or white karate gi.

Is sparring required immediately?

No. Students first build fundamentals and comfort with training before progressing into sparring work.

Is competition required?

No. Tournament participation is always optional.

Will I be able to keep up if I am older or not very athletic?

Yes. Classes are designed to be adaptable to different fitness and experience levels, and students are encouraged to progress at their own pace. Martial arts training is about consistent growth, discipline, and learning — not being the fastest or strongest person in the room.
